Iyengar Yoga Workshop in Chennai with Amit Sharma – A Joyful Experience of Learning & Sharing

“Yoga does not just change the way we see things, it transforms the person who sees.” – B.K.S. Iyengar

On the 9th and 10th of August, I had the privilege of conducting an Iyengar Yoga workshop in Chennai, hosted by Zota Yog with the kind support of Bhuvaneesh Sivashanmugam. As a Certified Level 2 Iyengar Yoga Teacher with over 20 years of teaching experience, it brought me immense joy to introduce Iyengar Yoga to a group of dedicated yoga teachers who were exploring this approach for the very first time.

The participants were all experienced yoga teachers, deeply committed to their practice and teaching. What made this gathering unique was that for many of them, this was their very first encounter with Iyengar Yoga. Their openness, curiosity, and eagerness to learn reflected the essence of Guruji B.K.S. Iyengar’s philosophy – yoga is an endless journey of refinement and discovery.

Through detailed alignment, careful use of props, and step-by-step guidance, I shared how Iyengar Yoga transforms the way we approach each asana. It was heartening to see the participants embrace these methods with genuine enthusiasm.

The Q&A sessions were a highlight of the workshop. Teachers raised thoughtful questions about practice and teaching, and these exchanges opened the door to deeper reflection. Their insights and willingness to explore reminded me of Guruji’s words: “Yoga is a light, which once lit, will never dim. The better your practice, the brighter the flame.” That flame shone brightly during our time together.

The thoughtful arrangements at Zota Yog and the warm hospitality extended by Bhuvaneesh Sivashanmugam added to the overall experience. From a well-prepared practice space to nourishing food, every detail created a welcoming atmosphere that allowed us to focus completely on learning and sharing.

By the end of the two days, I could sense a shift in the participants’ practice – subtle changes in alignment, awareness, and teaching perspective. Many expressed that Iyengar Yoga had given them a fresh lens through which to guide their students, which was deeply rewarding to witness.

Moments like these remind me why I dedicate my life to this path. Teaching is not only about sharing knowledge, it is about creating a supportive space where people can discover health, balance, and transformation through yoga.

The Chennai workshop left me with a heart full of gratitude and inspiration. Iyengar Yoga has the ability to bring clarity and stability into practice and life, and I look forward to sharing it with more communities across India and around the world.

If you are looking to introduce authentic Iyengar Yoga workshops to your studio or community, I would be delighted to connect. Together, we can create meaningful spaces for learning, growth, and wellbeing.

“The study of asana is not about mastering posture. It’s about using posture to understand and transform yourself.” – B.K.S. Iyengar

I carry this Chennai experience with joy and gratitude, hopeful for many more opportunities to spread the light of Iyengar Yoga.
